Rainbow Six Siege's New Operators Have Been Fully Revealed

Operation Wind Bastion retains the standard template of past seasons, including two new Operators, one multiplayer map, and a variety of accompanying content. And while these additions won't reshape how you play, it concludes another year on a high note. After two hours hands-on with Operation Wind Bastion ahead of launch, here's what we learned. Kaid, a Defender, comes equipped with three deployable electroclaws, which electrify any metallic object within a small radius. That means, if placed correctly, one electroclaw could electrify multiple reinforcements, deployable shields, or razor wires.

We've known about most of this for a while now, however the exact details of what the three will bring to game hadn't entirely been pinned down before now. This kind of update is why the five-year-old game still has a big following a couple of years after launch and a grand total of 40 million players. We played the update at a recent Ubisoft preview event, and you can see part of my gameplay in the video embedded in the story. Opposing players are rendered unable to use their weapon for a short duration, and must get back on their feet. The mines can be used defensively to protect your flanks or offensively to flush enemies out. The throwable gadget latches onto any surface via a spider-style design, dispersing a deadly charge across nearby reinforcements and player-deployed gadgets.

Characters caught by the Air Jab will break any destructible wall they crash into, and they can be pushed off tall ledges for some potential fall kills. Despite the powerful tool, she has a few big weaknesses, particularly in the form of Jager whose own gadget can disable the Air Jab. The Air Jab also affects teammates, too, meaning using it in close-range skirmishes might prove to be more of a hindrance than a help.

Its simple function makes it viable for all sorts of defenses. Placed strategically, a single Rtila can do the work of three or four Bandit batteries: simultaneously zapping a wall, two bandit wires, and a deployable shield. But most importantly, sticking an Rtila within range of a reinforced hatch allows defenders to protect them against breachers above. The place has some portraits of Kaid, who is commander of the kasbah and trained operators, such as Nomad, hanging in the halls. It's a beautiful place inspired by real places, but it's a fictional location.

Due to its compact nature, the Rtila boasts formidable verticality, establishing the first solution for electrifying hatches from below. This could further promote creativity among defenders, allowing new placement configurations and reducing predictability. The result of this is Kaid will work well for some points, especially areas with hatch access, however Bandit should still be viable for others.
